What is an Israeli Will?

The Inheritance Law in Israel – 1965 חוק הירושה (“The Law”) states that a person has the freedom to write up a Last Will & Testament – צוואה and give testamentary dispositions as you sees fit.

A Will overpowers the instructions of the Law.

In a Will, you may choose to exclude a heir (beneficiary), such as a spouse or child, give a property to a third party, a non member of your family. It is also possible to stipulate conditions prior to distributing the estate, for example to request a property be sold rather than inherited as a pre-condition to distributing the inheritance , etc…You may modify, amend, or even annul your Will.

Inheritance disputes can mostly be prevented by drawing up a Will with professional advice from a probate lawyer who specializes in Israeli inheritance law.

You may write up a Will in the language you are most comfortable with, in our Office we do so in English French and Hebrew. The Inheritance Registrar usually accepts Wills written up in English with no request for translation.
